Your Massage

Once you arrive at The Massage Company, our front desk team will greet you and ask you some questions about your reasons for taking a massage, whilst you will fill out a Massage Consultation Form (a quick survey where you record any important medical history, pain areas, injuries and any other physical conditions we should know about. Most importantly, when your massage therapist reviews the Massage Consultation form with you, they will be quickly able to:

  1. Ensure you are safe and healthy to receive massage
  2. Understand what you want from the session, and also your preferences on the level of pressure you would like during your massage. If you don’t know, they will advise, it’s their job!
  3. Identify any specific areas of your body in pain or needing specific attention during your massage, whilst also checking any areas you do not want massaged.

Your massage therapist will then take you to a quiet, comfortable treatment room where a padded, warm massage bed and clean sheets will have been prepared. You can request that the bed heater be turned down or off, no problem! The Massage Therapist will tell you what position to lie in on the table, and which sheets to cover yourself with, before they then leave the room and wait outside to allow you to undress to your own personal comfort. (Massage preferences vary, with some preferring to be partially clothed, most just their underwear, and some completely disrobed). All are fine with us.

You will always be covered with the top sheet during your massage session and an additional blanket will be used to keep you warm. The process your massage therapist will follow is to only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is 100% respected 100% of the time.

You will notice the massage bed has a detachable face rest (which allows you to lie in a face down position without turning your head and neck). If you don’t like using any this, simply ask the Massage Therapist to remove it. You will also find a small shelf for your personal belongings and hangers for your clothes. The music will be relaxing, playing from overhead speakers, but can be turned down if you prefer. The same for our lighting, which will be turned down during the session, but can be raised if you ask. It’s easy!

The best way to get the most from your session is to talk with your massage therapist about what you like or don’t like. It’s not necessary to chat throughout (many people prefer just to switch off and say nothing) but you should let your therapist know if you have aches or pains in any area and they can give this specific attention.

As a guide: general relaxation or stress reduction sessions typically include all the major areas of the body (back, neck, shoulders, legs), while a session for a specific injury, pain or tightness will be focused on that area. It’s actually possible to spend most of an entire session on only one area, if this helps the pain.

One of our Golden Rules is that at any time, if there is anything that does not feel comfortable or right or you do not like, you have the right to ask the massage therapist to stop. To mitigate this, throughout the session, you will be asked if the level of pressure is ok, and you should take this opportunity to communicate the level in which you feel comfortable, asking for more or less.

Before beginning the session, your therapist will ask you to alert them if, at any time during the session, a technique they are using is uncomfortable. Depending on your specific needs or requests, your massage therapist will either perform a customized full-body massage (for general relaxation and stress reduction) or focus on the specific parts of your body that you have requested. The Massage Company uses only the highest quality hypoallergenic massage creams and lotions for your massage.

Once your massage session is complete, your therapist will leave the room so you may re-dress, then wait outside the room for you with a cup of water, and take you back to the front area. Our massage sessions vary from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. Each 60-minute session is a minimum of 50 minutes’ actual massage, as it includes 5 minutes to review your Massage Consultation Form and 5 minutes to undress and re-dress.

While a single massage session will have positive health benefits, the more you go, the healthier you feel. For this reason, at The Massage Company we have created an affordable and convenient membership plan to ensure massage becomes part of a better and balanced life.

You may cancel or reschedule appointments with no charge any time before the close of business on the day before. Same day cancellations or appointment changes will be charged 50% of the scheduled service, and 100% if you cancel inside 1 hour of the appointment or do not show up.
